From Journal Writing Cures by Mari L. McCarthy:
Never written a poem before? Just start putting words on a page anyway you want, connect the words or paste in a picture and write down the words that you see, hear, smell touch and taste from it.
A poem doesn’t have to rhyme or make a lot of sense to anyone really. I’m not a poetry type of writer because I find a lot of poetry just doesn’t make sense to me and I want it to. But, that’s just how I feel about it. I do still write haiku, upon occasion. Limericks, however, I just can’t seem to get the rhythm and pace for. Try some poetry today. Just for yourself. If you like what you come up with post it on your blog or Twitter (if it isn’t breaking the 140 character limit).
