My dad's birthday is the same day. He turned 70 this year.

Like you, my dad has a difficult relationship with his kids. Not because he is an awful person but because he doesn't know how to be open and genuine with us. Fundamentally, he is a very lonely and lost person.

My father was a recovering alcoholic when he died. He was just starting to get his life together when he passed. Everyone has regrets. They have to learn how to open up, and want to. Years ago people didn’t say “I am sorry,” or “I made a mistake.” Your father never gave himself the chance to find that peace, which could have been passed on to you.
