Can You Answer This Question?

From Shadow Muse on LiveJournal:

Given the choice, would you prefer to be a world-class (visual or performing) artist or an intellectual genius? Which, in your opinion, would facilitate a more fulfilling career and social life?

I really can’t pick one or the other. Maybe an artist cause not being a genius doesn’t mean I have to be dense, just not a genius. I can live with that. Which would you pick and why?

One doesn’t have to exclude the other, does it? Great artistry requires some kind of genius, I’d think.

The question should be rephrased so that it makes more sense.

That’s tricky. The things I’d love to succeed at need a blend of the two.

WORLD-CLASS VISUAL ARTIST! Geniuses are often ferociously, and sometimes even fatally, plagued by demons like bi-polar (http://contemplating-my-navel.blogspot.com/2010/02/touched-with-fire.html). Being world-class would mean you would hopefully be rolling in the dough a little more than I am at the moment, facilitating a wider range of materials and experiences ;) (i.e. being able to throw one-man shows/parties in that fabulous venue you’ve been lusting after in your imagination – WITH all the world-class wine that complements your world-class amazingness! lol)

I can’t pick one over the other – I don’t have that sort of single minded obsession. I want it all.

I agree with Gary, you can’t really have the first without the other – unless, of course, you are simply a puppet and completely managed behind the scenes.
