Some of my family love yard work and gardening and landscaping in general. I like to admire their work. I am not fond of manual labour, but I get pulled into it more often than I’d really like. It’s not that I don’t like getting my hands dirty, it is the type of dirt: bugs and their eggs, pond scum and soil from very heavy rocks, that I don’t want on my hands.
My family don’t think of writing as work. This makes it harder for me to justify it as work to them or myself. Which makes it harder to work at it. But, I continue to do so. Am I a hard worker or a good worker? These are things which my family value, though only in the areas which they consider to be worthy of work. Still, as someone who writes we should also be good and hard workers. We need to be dedicated and persistent. Are you?
Do you think of writing as something that requires good, old fashioned, hard work and a good worker?
I never expect to be famous, I merely want to have a recognized place among good workers in my chosen profession. – Lucy Maud Montgomery
