Now and then in the media they depict aliens from other planets as creatures with multiple arms. I’ve seen drawings and real people on film wearing costumes to look like they have six arms, like a grasshopper or some other insect.
I was thinking this morning that you could do a lot with extra arms. Play the piano and clap at the same time and then use the last set of arms to fold your laundry. It would be very complicated to use three sets of arms though, to keep track of each task you were doing at the same time. I think I’d have brain burn out. So, if there were a creature that really did exist with that many arms and lived a life as complicated as our own (versus an insect) it would have an exceptionally well functioning brain.
Write about this creature. All the things it can do and all the things it thinks of with this super kind of brain. Does it have any other abilities?

I’m delighted you stopped by my blog, so I’ve found yours! I’ve checked out the others too and I love the style!
So about the alien: I imagine them like ET to be honest, only two arms, small and very cute blue eyes! And I’d love to have a heart visible through the skin, with the warm glow that shows everyone I’m alive…but I’m digressing I know. If aliens really had six arms, probably they need them to keep under control very agitated children! much love, Fran

This made me think of that movie “District 9″ the aliens in that movie had advanced brain functions, multiple arms and complicated lives to boot.
I suspend my disbelief with Star Trek because so many of the aliens are humanoid. Of course, they do explain that in TNG.
I’m fine with that, but in hardcore science fiction, I look for more alien aliens. John Scalzi is great at having his extraterrestrials be truly alien. He doesn’t even make the mistake of having the more similar to humans be the “good” aliens. I adore his Old Man’s War novels, even if they are not as warm and fluffy as Star Trek.
