Not every post needs to be text based content.
If you have a camera, take photos and illustrate rather than explain.
Let the image speak for you. You may not be ready to jump into video posts but these days it isn’t difficult to edit an image online to create something unique. Add text to the image and create a quote post. Turn an image into a background your readers could use on their own sites and devices. A calendar doesn’t have to be the year, take it one month at a time and that gives you something to post each month.
List posts are popular.
Consider a list of the best sites/ resources in your topic/ niche. Or, take it to Amazon and find products people would be interested in. Write up a review (an idea not on the list below). Use a list post to highlight your own best posts of the month or year or all time. A playlist may not interest you. I don’t have one myself. Music choices can be personal, more than you want to post on a business site. An alternative is a reading list, the books you have found useful in your business, or for building/ keeping your web presence.
So, there are quite a few options for the days you feel less than brilliantly creative and can’t make yourself write a post.

I still like blogging, publishing and writing on the web. But, I have seen it change so much from the early days when I began online in 1996. A lot of it is disappointing. Once we had free creative energy and the only rules were those we gave ourselves. There was no marketing, or SEO or keywords. I was an editall (meaning I could edit the entire directory) for the Open Directory Project. I stayed with it for just over ten years. We were the first to fight spam – before anyone started calling it SEO and giving it credit for being “marketing”. It still seems a lot of spam to me, but I am seeing it can be used and necessary too. I’m trying to change after all these years of spam fighting.
That is pretty much why I bought this web domain (years ago, far longer than some people have been online). I wanted to create an oasis where creative blogging still flourished and was celebrated. Something where marketing was a discouraging word and SEO could be booed and hissed at.
I may never have my oasis but I can write about blogging from the other side. Try to show people there is more to blogging than money making schemes and SEO. Remember and create great blogs with clever writing, gorgeous images and creative arts of any kind you can fit into the virtual/ digital world of the blog.
So that’s my purpose here. I’m a bit off track at the moment and things have been slow to start. Not that I lack passion, just the focus has gone a bit wonky and I’m working on fixing it. I’ve spread myself a bit thin and now I’m simplifying things and getting my focus back into perspective. Any site you start you need to sustain. I’m finding my feet with this one so I can have the drive and passion to sustain it (and my other sites too).

This is an excellent quote and describes how I have been feeling about the blogging/ web writing and publishing I have been doing for the past year. I’ve listened to what people tell you Google wants. Well, Google is not king and Google does not read this or any other blog.
For now this site is on hiatus until I am ready to create my own content again.
No more ghost writing.
I wrote about ASCII art and ways to use it as more than just art. I wish I had kept copies of what I wrote then. They were sent as newsletters and I have never found them. The site closed down, was sold (that usual story). It would be great to read what I wrote about ASCII art more than ten years ago. I remember having some great ideas.
People seldom read old content. So you need to think of each post you write as the only post in your blog. The others are background to show you’ve been here awhile, more like a credential than content. Without an archive you look like someone who just started. Yet, those posts could all be about your pet salamander for all anyone is likely to actually look back and read them.
Why do people not read old content? Lots of reasons: it’s outdated, it’s too far away, they don’t have time and they didn’t really come to your blog to get to know you all THAT well after all. Blog readers tend to skim, even the post they do read might be hit and miss rather than fully read. I do think short posts are the way to a reader’s attention in the web writing scheme of things.
