This was penned by Eunice Frost, the first Penguin books editor.
I’m not sure that her opinion of Graham Greene……..and she really did know him…….matches yours.
Nice site good objectives.
If only I could get a small advance
You bet I’d go straight to the South of France –
You need a lot more for the USA
Than any publisher will give away.
Oh to be Shaw – or even Graham Greene
They are twice damned and still show on the screen.
I hear the Council’s puffed you in Peru,
That’s nothing to my puffing up of YOU,
And anyway the whole thing’s just a plot
To make us think we’re someone when we’re not.

I don’t know much about Graham Greene. I do like the plan of stopping at 500 words. It would work for me. Thanks for the comment. Now I will look up more about Eunice Frost, pretty cool for a woman to be the first book editor at a big publisher like Penguin.

That’s a great concept. I love how it would inspire the writer to keep writing, because thoughts are incomplete. It’s the limitations that allow the imagination to break free…
