Posting Daily is not Easy

I’ve set a goal for myself to get back to daily posting. It’s a lofty goal but, I did it for years. I know what I’m setting myself up for. I know how good it is to have a daily posting schedule too. I’m not the most disciplined person, by far. I am on intimate terms with procrastination and distraction. But, daily posting was nice. Not easy, but nice. It felt good. So, that’s the plan. I’ll say I’m starting today and not telling anyone but you.

Can you keep a secret-

Goals Like Jigsaw Puzzles

It’s not easy coming up with a goal when someone asks you what your goal is. Unless you recently decided on a goal and feel good about it, goals change and need to be updated. Some goals seem too far into the future, too hard to attain or just not reasonable for whatever reasons. Even a goal you don’t think you can try for, is still a goal of sorts. You may feel more like a dreamer than someone thinking of a practical goal.

How about thinking of attaining the goal as a jigsaw puzzle. You know how a jigsaw puzzle looks once it is completed, all those jagged, curved and twisted pieces fitted together. Each piece connected, each piece fitting into place.

Instead of looking directly at the piece of the puzzle which is the goal, look at the piece beside it. Then the piece above it or a couple of pieces over to the left and below it. Chances are your goal has connections to other things, other elements and parts which you could aim for first.

What could you work on today to help you connect to your goal? There is less pressure to reach your goal if you aim for something connected to it but you also get closer, a better connection, to your goal. You may even change your goal or find a new path to getting there. Give yourself a chance.

My Seven Links

MyTripBase started the My 7 Links project. It’s a blog meme but you can just pick your seven links and pass the idea along, or not. On Twitter, search for the #My7Links hashtag.

THE GOAL
To unite bloggers (from all sectors) in a joint endeavor to share lessons learned and create a bank of long but not forgotten blog posts that deserve to see the light of day again.

THE RULES
1) Blogger is nominated to take part
2) Blogger publishes his/her 7 links on his/her blog – 1 link for each category.

This shouldn’t take you long to do – don’t over-think it!
– Your most beautiful post
– Your most popular post
– Your most controversial post
– Your most helpful post
– A post whose success surprised you
– A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
– The post that you are most proud of

I have way too many posts over more than ten years of blogging and writing online. Just the thought of going through and picking out seven is daunting.  I put this aside to get done (sometime last year) and did not get anywhere with it. But, I don’t want to leave it in drafts so here it is for others to take up the project. Good luck!

Writing is Work

From the StoryGirl about Writing is Work:

For me, the best way to conquer that is to schedule my writing in as if it was a job, even when it isn’t.  To get dressed, turn off the TV, log off of any social networking or chat sites, and not let myself do anything but writing until I’ve either reached my goal or the time has run out.  Once in a while it’s pure drudgery and torture.  Sometimes – most times – it’s a delight, and by the end I’m very glad I did it.

I am not very good at being disciplined at writing or almost everything else. One thing that does help me is making a plan and then sticking to it. If I have a plan, all spelled out, I’m more likely to get everything (or at least many things) accomplished from that list.
